Industrial Romance & Hometown Roots: Amy & Devin’s Couple Spotlight

ree

Some love stories start in unexpected places… and some begin in your hometown without you even knowing it. Amy and Devin both grew up in Simsbury, CT, just a year apart, in the kind of small town where everyone seems to know each other, but somehow, their paths never crossed. Not until they were both preparing to attend the University of Maine and stumbled across each other in a Facebook group for students.

“I saw a comment from a guy saying he was from Simsbury,” Amy recalled. “And I thought… wait, who is this?”

Cue the social media deep dive, a few messages back and forth, and before long, Amy and Devin finally met face-to-face on campus in Orono, Maine. A first meeting turned into friendship, then into a relationship, and eventually, something so much more.

On October 16, 2022, Devin surprised Amy with a picture-perfect proposal on Simsbury’s Flower Bridge, a sentimental spot adorned with candles, flowers, photos, and a heartfelt “yes.” Afterward, the celebration continued at a nearby pub where friends and family were waiting to toast to the next chapter of their story.

A Venue That Felt Like a Perfect Match

When it came time to plan their wedding, Amy and Devin knew exactly what kind of vibe they wanted, industrial romantic, but finding a space that felt just right was easier said than done. That is, until they toured The Boylston Rooms.

“We left that tour and I turned to Devin and said, ‘This is it.’” Amy shared. “Devin, being the practical one, said we should tour a few more venues just to be sure. So we did… and we hated them all. We booked Boylston three days later.”

While the venue’s stunning mix of industrial charm and timeless elegance drew them in, it was the people that sealed the deal.

“Erin and Myles are absolute gems. In an industry that can sometimes feel a bit transactional, they were genuine, kind, and completely invested in making our day amazing. We seriously joked that we would’ve gotten married in an abandoned mall if it meant having them help us coordinate it.”

A Day Full of Emotion, Calm, and a Little Snowball Magic

Set against the beautiful backdrop of May in Western Massachusetts, Amy and Devin’s wedding day was everything they had hoped for, warm, joyful, and filled with small, unforgettable moments. Amy had a slow start to her morning, full of nerves and anticipation, until she spotted Devin through the windows of the venue.

“In that moment, I just felt calm,” she said. “All of the anxiety melted away. I couldn’t wait to marry him.”

For Devin, the first look was the standout. “The moment I saw Amy in her dress… I was speechless. It all became real. I was about to marry the love of my life.”

Handled with Heart (and Backup Plans)

While weddings are rarely without a curveball, Amy and Devin had a team ready to pivot without skipping a beat.

“We found out our DJ’s flight had been canceled and he wasn’t going to make it,” Amy said. “But when I told Myles, he just smiled and said, ‘Oh, I’ve known for hours. The backup is already here.’ I was like, ‘Cool, first look time, then!’”

That quiet confidence and preparedness made all the difference. From timeline organization to vendor communication and thoughtful little details (like Myles and Erin checking in without hovering), the Boylston Rooms team made the day feel seamless.

Advice Worth Sharing

As seasoned planners (especially Amy), this couple knows what it takes to balance vision with joy. Their advice to future couples?

“If planning is only stressing you out, something needs to change. Yes, it’s a lot of work, but it should also be fun. Use shared apps, plan wedding-date nights, and celebrate the milestones together. Don’t get bogged down in the details. Focus on what really matters.”

And one of their favorite choices? Staying side by side all night long.

“We spent the whole reception together, and it made the day feel slower, more meaningful. It’s easy to get pulled in different directions, but those first few hours as newlyweds, sharing them together, was priceless.”
